Well CB and amateur radio are 2 different services, so those answers need discarded right away.

It all depends on the band, mode and frequencies you use. Amateur radio has several different bands, that all have different propagation characteristics.

Also, there are different modes…. FM, SSB, digital modes, ATV, etc that all behave differently.

THEN you have different antenna configurations…. verticals, horizontals, beams, omnidirectional….

With that in mind… you can have one radio that only makes it across town… and another that works worldwide.

This probably gave you more questions than answers.. but it is all what you want, what you know, and what you want to do. Ham radio lets you do it all.

i have a cb radio in my car and i constantly here chatter coming in quite clear from truckers in states like kentucky and colorado
i live in mass so thats pretty far

how you do it is by amplifying the amount of power going into the transmitter
truckers use 12 or more car batteries

With the right equipment you can talk to people in other countries.

It is more of a problem of how good the receiver you have to pick out the signal you want.

10 meter and 11 meter radios defer in power outputs. Ham radios are more powerful. CB radios also vary in power. Normally, CB’s run 4
watts stock but alot of guys run linears to put out and recieve better.
