Amateur Radio , Loaner equiment for Elderly Amateurs that are home bound or in a nursing home?

by on June 7, 2010

Would like to know if anyone has every set up loaner program of Ham radio equipment. For Hams in Nursing homes or living at home. Would be nice to see if we had a system set up to keep track of Hams we don't hear on the air. And to assist them to get back on the air. Or to help re locate their station and antennas if needed from let's say the basement to up stairs living area.

A local radio club may have equipment to borrow. See http://www.arrl.org/FandES/field/club/clubsearch.phtml to find one nearby.

For someone in a nursing home, the best you’ll do is a hand held radio in most instances… However with a little convincing they might allow more.

I would join your local Amateur Radio Club. Sounds like a perfect club activity to help those who need it.
